It seems that the R&B celeb Usher and his wife Tameka Foster Raymond’s marriage has been doomed from the very start. Back in July 2007 their wedding ceremony was canceled, a civil ceremony performed only a month later with a following dream wedding in September.
Several people who are quite close to the family outline a story of a marriage that went awry almost before it was put on the tracks. Small wonder that it is disintegrating fast now. Last Friday Usher filed a divorce petition in Superior Court in Atlanta.
“No one I’ve spoken to is surprised,” is the inside view on the news according to the lowdown People got from a trusted source. “As bad as this is gonna sound, it was never a matter of ‘I wonder if they’ll divorce,’ but more like ‘I wonder WHEN they’ll divorce.'”
Another source, a friend of Tameka’s, seconds it. “They peaked before they even got married. Right after it was over, they started to drift apart. [Usher] just wasn’t ready to settle down, at least not with her.”
Everyone noticed that Usher and Tameka went on leading separate lives, getting together only for the sake of their two sons, Usher Raymond V, 18 months, and Naviyd, 6 months. “He just wasn’t used to calling her if he was going to be out late,” says a friend. “He didn’t treat her bad. He just took her for granted.”
And it doesn’t seem to be an ugly case of somebody else interfering to win Usher’s affections. The singer’s life, going by what the family’s friends say, is that of a bachelor.
Randall Kessler, the lawyer for Tameka, assured People that they would respond to that move in a proper fashion. “We were hoping this case would be resolved privately,” he remarked, “but since Usher filed it publicly we will have to respond.”
