Sarah Jessica Parker’s next film, entitled I Don’t Know How She Does It, tells the story of a woman who runs a successful and demanding business and wants to be a good mother at that. Now that’s the perfect role for the actress, 46, because this is how she is actually getting by.
Parker, who has recently been hailed as Hollywood’s highest-paid actress, goes for producing, does her bit as spokeswoman and leads an active family life as a wife and mother of three kids. So she knows some secrets of the trade, for neither she nor husband Matthew Broderick neglects the family life for work.
Recounting their lifestyle to Vogue for the August issue, Parker said that they are managing their home as hands-on parents, without live-in help. They regard active participating in all family affairs as an important part of their lives.
The Broderick-Parker family includes an 8-year-old son, James Wilkie, and twin girls Tabitha and Loretta, 2 – the latter born via a surrogate mother when the Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw was 44. It had been the outcome of a long struggle with a grave (and much spoken of) fertility issue, but the movie star believes in having children at a mature age.
It can make a woman a better mother, she shares, but there were also advantages to her strife – like the chance to sleep as late as 11 am for years on end.
Harking back to the Sex and the City days, the actress confessed that she just loved to work on it, it being easier without such a large family. Then her need to be a parent and give more of herself to the family life made her drop the television series and turn to being a devoted mother.
“Honestly, the only thing that I’m concerned about is the energy: I hope I can maintain the energy,” says Parker, admitting that having twins proves a task twice more difficult than what had been put into bringing up James Wilkie!
