Fall and spring are considered to be an ideal time for allergy. A new research has shown that exacerbation of the disease can be provoked by Christmas, too. Here one should first of all mention the attributes of the winter holiday – the Christmas tree and its decorations that contain much dust after laying in a closet for a long time.
In addition, New Year’s aromatic mixtures, which are usually put in a room for flavoring, can cause very strong reactions. Therefore, people with allergies should be very careful when going shopping in the period of holidays, since salespeople flavor their shops especially actively to create a sense of celebration.
Dr. Joseph Leija, an allergist from Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, has compiled a list of recommendations for people with allergies for the holidays. First of all, the danger may be hidden in traditional Christmas dishes, tangerines and other citrus fruits.
The second problem is that the symptoms of allergies are often mistaken for a winter cold. Then, in order to protect yourself, it is better to choose an artificial Christmas tree because there can be fungus on a natural one. From this point of view, humidifiers are also unsafe. They encourage the growth of mold in the room. It is necessary to maintain the humidity level below 50%.
