Modern women are more prone to overweight than their mothers and grandmothers – and that is due to the fact that they spend less effort to deal with household chores. In any case, this is the opinion of the researchers from the University of South Carolina.
Women Got Less Physically Active at Home
Back in 1965, housewives spent 27 hours every week to cope with their household chores, such as cleaning, cooking, and washing the dishes. Today, all of these procedures take 13.3 hours a week. Because of this, housewives burn 360 calories less than their grandmothers or mothers every day. And the reason for gaining extra pounds is not the wrong diet, as some experts are trying to convince us, but the low level of domestic activity.
Household Gadgets Save Time
There are two reasons for the fact that women are less engaged in household chores. The first one is a catastrophic shortage of time. Since most women work, they are more tired and prefer to have a rest rather than cook.
The second reason is the development of advanced technologies that make the household work of a housewife less exhausting. We have dishwashers, microwave ovens, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and other appliances.
What About Spending More Time on Domestic Chores?
Of course, we are not trying to force you, dear women, to abandon everything and start washing the clothes with your hands. You should not vacuum the house either, if there is a robot vacuum cleaner. But why don’t you think it over and spend enough time on health and exercises that will be useful?
