Abstinence from sexual activity cost a Frenchman £8,500 damages paid out to his wife – and that was an official court ruling!
A 51-year-old man was taken to court by his wife twice because of his failure to satisfy his wife in the bedroom. First it was a simple case of divorce which was granted to the disgruntled woman by a court in Nice with the judge reproving the faulty husband for his sexual inattention to his wife.
Still the lady remained unsatisfied with the outcome, and two years later she sued her ex-husband for the second time – this time demanding monetary compensation for insufficient sex “over 21 years of marriage” in the amount of €10,000.
The poor husband remonstrated arguing that his exhaustion and health problems rendered him unable to properly attend to his wife’s physical demands, but the judge had none of that.
The court ruling, based on Article 215 of the Civil Code of France, denuded the weak lover of £8,500. The code states clearly that married couples ought to lead a “shared communal life,” the judge summed up, and regular sex must be regarded as inalienable part of this clause.
