No More Animal Killing for Meat

The scientists from the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands) said they developed a method for producing meat without killing animals. They managed to create and introduce to public opinion the first hamburger grown in vitro. To create such a hamburger, they used meat derived from stem cells.

Fresh meat

The researchers reported that about 10000 cattle stem cells are required for the production of such meat. In certain laboratory conditions, the number of these stem cells is then increased by more than a billion times, and the result is a product almost identical to the natural beef in its composition and appearance.

The scientists believe that their finding is of great importance, as the world’s population is growing, and eventually there will be a huge shortage of natural meat. The product, which was named in-vitro meat, is still under development. Now the scientists are looking for the volunteers who would dare to try a new product. In case there aren’t any, Dr. Post, the head of the research, promised to try his creation himself.
