A Yuletide 999 call from a woman who was in a huff over having her snowman stolen from her yard made the Kent police remind the population that the 999 system should not be misused.
A woman dialed emergency number because she had looked out of her window and found that her snowman was no longer there. The police thought it was an ornamental figurine she had purchased, but it turned out to have been a bona fide snow guy made by the caller herself.
The officer who took the call was smitten by her indignant outburst that “it ain’t a nice road but you don’t expect anybody to nick your snowman.” Yet he enjoined the woman not to abuse the emergency service, classifying her call as irresponsible.
Chief Inspector Black, commenting on the call, said that the woman was partially justified in treating the incident as a theft because she had used coins and teaspoons in making the snowman. Nevertheless he reminded that people misusing the emergency call system are liable for prosecution.
