The eighth fatherhood, when the revered father is 54, feels vastly different, Mel Gibson shares. Jay Leno on his Tuesday’s The Jay Leno Show thrashed out the issue with him, and Mel was very open about how he feels living with his eighth child (and her mother!) It’s three months that Gibson is the father of eight (the girl Lucia was born October 30), and his life is taking on a new shape.
By the film star’s own words, this time he takes things easily and leaves the brunt of the childcare with her mother, Oksana Grigorieva, while enjoying his night’s sleep to the full. “But you know, I support her,” he hastened to add to his confession.
But what he sacrificed is his 45-year-long habit: Mel Gibson has given up smoking! He has gone without a smoke for 18 days, and it’s some feat!
“You know, it’s not funny,” says Gibson, in the same breath hinting at his having to face some of his buried feelings like anger.
54 is a funny age to be giving up smoking, and of course Gibson was asked to comment on that. “Well, apart from carrying the garbage up to the top of the driveway and wheezing… I have a three-month-old daughter and (someday) I want to play tennis with her,” was his answer.
Gibson’s first film since 2002, Edge of Darkness, will be out very soon.
