Kerri Walsh, 30, and her husband Casey Jennings, 33, look like they have produced another great sportsman. Their son, Joseph Michael Jennings, born last month, took after his father, an AVP pro-volleyball player.
“Joey’s a spitting image of his daddy,” says Kerri. “Same head, same hair-line, same bone structure.”
Kerri went on to tell People how Casey might have missed the great event because of his commitment to volleyball.
“I started my contractions the night before and just labored through the night and kissed my husband goodbye. He had to go play in a tournament.”
And Jennings walked out bitterly sure that he was going to miss out on the birth… but there he was wrong! “Casey got home around 5 p.m.,” Kerri’s story runs. “And my water broke around 5:05 and then we went straight to the hospital. My husband was a really great coach and little Joey came out at 7:14 p.m.”
Now Jennings is a happy father who loves to spend his time around his son.
The Olympian mother is already missing her work out and anxious to shake off the excessive weight as soon as it can be done. “36 lbs. is the official number. I just didn’t want to hit 40 because that would be 200 lbs. but I feel pretty silly now that I see Joey.”
But the first week calmed her down already as she watched her weight disappear. “Now I just need to build my muscle because I’m skinny soft, which is the worst thing to be.”
She is eager to get back to her form and be in good shape for the August 8 Hermosa Beach AVP tournament. “I can’t wait to sweat and be outside and play the sport I love so much.”
Devoted to the sand as she is, Walsh keeps coming back to her baby. “I have peace in my heart because of our son. I just can’t wait to show him the world.”
