A Key to a Happy Marriage: Sharing Chores

They say that real men have to go to work and support their family. And their better halves should stay at home to look after the children and create family comfort. But, unless your clock lags behind by several decades, you are bound to say that this division of roles has become outdated.

Nowadays women take care of their career no less than men do, and they go to work every day. And on returning home … they plunge into household chores: cleaning, cooking dinner, washing up. Their husbands are probably unaware of the studies showing that the division of household chores makes the couple’s life much happier.

The first study of this kind was conducted by Matt Johnson of the University of Alberta in Canada. He studied nearly fifteen hundred couples and came to the unequivocal conclusion that the division of household chores is the fastest way to harmony in a relationship.
He says very few people like to do housework, but if a man helps his partner, she feels valued and experiences much less irritation.
In addition, an equal division of responsibilities makes the lovers less tired, which means they have enough energy until late night, when they can relax, forget about cleaning and make a little mess in the bedroom.

This simple secret can literally save those who are just starting to build a family life. After interviewing 220 couples who have been married for no longer than 2 years, it became clear that it is the equal sharing of responsibilities that helped them survive their first family problems and achieve mutual understanding. The girls were often ready to forget all the quarrels as soon as their husbands laid hands on the dishwashing detergent.
