The psychologists from the University of Buffalo claimed that mashed potatoes, macaroni, cheese, meatloaf, and other “figure-harmful” products actually give a person a lot of positive emotions and help to fight spleen and loneliness.
It became clear during the experiment, when the researchers asked one group of volunteers first to recollect a quarrel with their beloved ones and share it, and then tell the others about their favorite dishes. Another group received an emotionally neutral writing assignment. As a result, scientists have concluded that a mere recollection of favorite foods helps to alleviate feelings of loneliness and depression. So it is not necessarily that you should stuff yourself with chocolate, for example, to feel better after the break-up with your beloved – it’s enough just to think about it or any other delicious food.
