American doctors have found that recurring nightmares in a dream may warnings of serious diseases, which would only manifest decades later.
An article in PLOS One was devoted to this discovery. Scientists believe that terrible dreams signal the coming of Parkinson’s disease and even schizophrenia. It is a case of sleep disorder called RBD, when during a nightmare, a person repeats the movement from a terrible dream, injuring himself and those sleeping nearby.
After a long-term investigation of patients with RBD syndrome, the experts concluded that more than 80 percent of them over time developed an Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, or dementia, and even schizophrenia in some cases.
According to the data in the journal, the average distance between the diagnoses was 20 years.
