Researchers at the University of Michigan have concluded that it is possible to predict the duration of a marriage if one observes the way spouses discuss controversial issues. They conducted an experiment with 373 couples who were monitored for 16 years. Upon completion of researches, the divorce rate was almost half – 46%. So what leads to divorce?
The most striking indication of the fragility of relationships is when one spouse stays calm during arguments, listening to the views and feelings of his/her partner and trying to constructively discuss the problem, while the other partner avoids this, or for example leaves entirely.
Moreover, men were generally more inclined to stay calm, and they behaved less emotional than women, who however, after some time learnt this.
