Budget Tips for Descaling a Tea Kettle

Do you enjoy starting your day with a cup of hot coffee? Used to spending your evenings with a mug of some freshly brewed tea? If you do not like waiting (but used to paying more for electricity), then you surely own an electric tea kettle. Or at least any kettle. If you are curious enough to look inside, you will probably find scale there. Not fatal, but unpleasant. Unwilling to drink tea “with additives”? Then learn how to simply and effectively get rid of scale in just a few minutes.

If you live in an area with hard water (and if you read these lines, it is probably so), from time to time you will encounter scale inside the kettle. They say it is not very harmful to health; however, it looks unpleasant and spoils the taste of the water, tea or coffee. So be sure to descale your tea kettle from time to time. We will show you how.

You will need:

  • Water
  • White vinegar

Mix water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio. The mixture should fill the kettle. However, do not keep it for a long time inside: pour it in, turn on the kettle, bring to a boil and turn off.

Pour the water and vinegar out and look at the condition of the heating element. If the scale is gone – congratulations! If not – just repeat the procedure. And be sure to rinse well.

You can also try to descale your kettle with citric acid. For example, mix about 30g lemon juice with 500ml water (two cups). Pour it into the kettle, bring to a boil, let cool and then pour out. After that, rinse the kettle at least 5 times.
