- The country with the largest number of people in jail is the U.S.A. When it comes to putting someone in prison, this country has no rivals. The U.S. is home to 5% of the world’s population and 25% of the total number of prisoners of the world – 2.2 million people. Second place goes to Russia – the country with the lowest percentage of acquittals in the civilized world – 1.5 million. The third place is taken by China with 870 thousand people.
- The country with most overweight citizens is Nauru. 95% of the populations of this small island are overweight. What is the reason? Nothing special, they just eat too much and move little.
- The country, which most likely will soon be under water, is Maldives.
- The country covering the maximum number of time zones is France. If we consider all the French territories, including those overseas, it turns out that the country is located in 12 time zones. For comparison, U.S. takes 11 zones, Russia – 9.
- The driest country is Libya. 99% of Libya is covered by desert, in some regions there is no rain for decades.
- The largest opium vendor is Afghanistan. It produces an incredible 95% of the world’s opium.
- The largest producer of oxygen in the world is Russia. Siberia grows about 25% of the world’s forests, which cover an area larger than the continental United States, making Russia the world’s most powerful oxygen producer.
- The country with the least amount of forests is Haiti. Forests are almost completely cut down in Haiti. This is noticeable even on satellite images: you can determine where Haiti borders with the Dominican Republic, where the forests are still growing.
- The most aggressive country in the world is Somalia. According to the Global Peace Index, Somalia has overtaken Iraq and become the most warlike nation in the world that is constantly attacking the neighboring countries. The Somalis are in a constant state of war, and revolution. All this is because Somalia is the poorest country, in which the population does not even have enough food.
- The most educated country in the world is Canada. 50% of the population has secondary or higher education. Israel follows Canada with 45%, and Japan – with 44%.
- The world’s largest city-state is Singapore.
- The country with the highest number of languages is Papua New Guinea. Although English is the official language in this country, in fact it is a mere formality: no more than 2% of the population speaks English. Papua New Guinea uses more than 820 different languages, i.e. 12% of the world’s languages.
- The least populous country is Mongolia. The population density in Mongolia is 4 people per 1.5 sq km. Compare this to the Hong Kong’s Mong Kok district having the world’s highest population density: 340 000 for the same 1.5 square kilometers.
- The country with the largest number of tanks – 21,000 – is Russia. U.S. follows with 16,000 tanks.
- The country with the youngest population in the world is Niger. About half of its population is under 15. Since 80% of its territory is covered by desert, it seems the only thing there is to do is to make children.
