Skin Mistakes You Should Stop Making

By Britney Valentine

You might be wondering why you are breaking out… why the sensitive area around your eye is looking like it’s in need of some care… or why the more you wash your face and try to take care of your skin, the worse your skin becomes! Here are some of the most common skin mistakes that might help you solve any skin issue you may be having.

Not using a moisturizer

If you have dry skin, you should obviously be using a moisturizer to combat this. However, what a lot of people don’t always realize is… even if you have combination skin or very oily skin, you still need to use a moisturizer. Why? Well, if you have oily skin, not using a moisturizer is actually going to increase oil production (especially if you use a lot of harsh scrubs and washes in an effort to get rid of excess oil; what happens is you actually end up increasing oil production by drying out your skin). Here’s a list of the best moisturizers for all skin types, including for oily and sensitive, acne prone skin. It’s important to know the right kind of moisturizer to use. If you’re using one meant for dry skin on oily skin, for example, you’ll end up with greasier skin, which you obviously don’t want.

Touching your skin too much

If you touch your skin too much, especially if you don’t wash your hands, you will end up increasing the chance of having a breakout. And no one wants that!

Not removing your eye makeup correctly

I love eyeliner and mascara. In fact, I apply it almost daily. The issue is, when it comes time to remove it… If you do it too harshly, it’s going to end up damaging the skin around your eyes. The skin right underneath your eyes is extremely delicate, which is why it requires extra caution when removing makeup.

Not washing your face enough (or too much)

There is a nice balance when it comes to washing your face that you should strike. It is important to wash your face twice a day, morning and night. If you don’t, it means all the dirt from the day is going to end up staying on your skin and this can lead to breakouts. Here’s a list of the best facial cleansers that you can try. Another mistake is washing your face too often. You might think washing your face many times during the day is going to help your skin but the reality is you might actually be doing more harm than good. When you wash it too often, you run the risk of stripping your skin of essential oils… Which will make your skin produce more oil and result in flaky yet oily, uncomfortable skin.

Not washing off your makeup before you sleep

This is extremely important to remember. If you go out and come back home exhausted, you might be tempted to fall asleep without taking your makeup off. You should at least keep face wipes next to your bed if you really refuse to get up. However, the best idea is to always make a point of taking your makeup off before bed. It’ll prevent breakouts and keep your skin fresh. Your skin repairs itself as you sleep.
