While Lisa Whelchel’s affairs careerwise are going strong – she is currently working on Survivor: Philippines – her home life back in Texas has crumbled down.
At first only the closest friends of the actress knew that when she left home for the set on March 10 her marriage was already history. Her divorce from her 24-year-long husband was finalized just 10 days ago.
Discussing her divorce with PEOPLE, she actress-cum-singer, 49, said she was glad to have her work which helped her blot out her misery and distract her from painful feelings.
Whelchel and her 61-year-old husband, who was an associate pastor at California’s The Church On the Way, are hoping to remain good friends and retain the family feelings. They have three adult children with whom they get together for events like watching premieres.
The couple had been married since 1988 when The Facts of Life folded. “I just never thought it would happen to me,” shared Whelchel, adding that it was a hurtful experience to realize that their marriage hadn’t worked out after all.
