While Kate Upton has already made a name for herself as a lingerie advert campaign face, the 19-year-old model failed to reach the level needed for joining Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio and Candice Swanepoel on the upcoming broadcast event as a new Victoria’s Secret Angel.
Upton’s blonde looks and her 5-foot-10 figure may be what is just perfect for a swimsuit model, but, according to Victoria’s Secret casting director Sophia Neophitou, it’s the same qualities that prevent her from getting wings.
Upton looks a “too obvious” choice for a Victoria’s Secret show, Neophitou shared with The New York Times as reported by the paper on Monday.
As the statement may cause some eyebrow-raising among Upton’s fans, Neophitou went on to reveal the grounds for turning the swimsuit model down. She likened her to the British Sun newspaper‘s Page 3 semi-naked girls – or footballer’s wives, explaining that Upton has “the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”
