The Desperate Housewives star – who is playing now Dr. Megan Hunt on ABC’s Body of Proof – is dead against artificial beauty enhancements… Maybe because she suffered from an imposed Botox injection seven years ago.
Dana Delany, 54, recounted the story to Prevention (to appear in the November issue). According to her, she was inveigled into trying Botox by her dermatologist. She had never heard of the stuff, but he talked her into giving her a Botox injection and hit a nerve in her forehead. It resulted in a spectacular hematoma, death of the nerve and a droop in her eye.
Although Delany understands that to err is human, she dropped the dermatologist who refused to admit having made a blunder. Now her right eye droops a little due to a deactivated muscle. “Now that I said this to you, everybody will look for it!” she said laughing it off. “I notice it more than anybody else, but I was symmetrical before and now I am not.”
Small wonder that Delany is now wary to try beauty stuff. Plastic surgery is another thing she prefers to shy away from. She declares she will never have one.
People are stopping to think of women as beautiful, she holds, and would often think and say something like “She’s had good work done on her.”
Hair-dyeing is another thing we could do without, she claims. What’s the point of wasting money and time trying to look like somebody else? If she didn’t have to do it for her job, Delany would have stopped dyeing her hair long ago.
“I think the really great actresses don’t worry about that kind of thing,” the multi-award winner says, reciting the names of Jamie Lee Curtis, Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton who didn’t go for beauty jobs. It’s smart to look like yourself is Delany’s heartfelt belief.
