When mentioning Christina Aguilera‘s name, one increasingly tends to discuss her new curvy figure rather than her hits or the long-awaited Lotus album, which is due for release this fall.
To be frank, Christina’s figure is far from the standards of show business at present. However, the singer does not suffer from her new appearance: she has a boyfriend and a beloved son, and her achievements in music have deprived her of the need to prove anything for a long time.
In a recent interview with Billboard, the winner of five “Grammy” awards admitted that for many years she had been trying to match the appearance of a model:
“During the promotion of Stripped in 2002 I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. “
It was difficult for Aguilera “to be skinny”, because of her genes in particular, since the singer’s father comes from Ecuador:
‘I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl.’
‘The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings!’ the five-time Grammy Award winner laughed. ‘Let me tell you, that wasn’t an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour. ‘
The producers insisted on the girl’s “not gaining weight” and exerted pressure on her:
“They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight, ‘she said.’ Basically, they told me I would effect a lot of people if I gained weight – the production, musical directors … people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. “
At that time Christina lost weight, but she was looking forward to the time when she would be able to finally relax:
“I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back to Basics promos and touring.”
Now the singer has decided to fight for having the weight she feels to be comfortable for her. When working on the latest Lotus album, Christina, as a true “Ecuadorian girl,” said:
“You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.”
According to the singer, the statement did not cause enthusiasm among producers:
“They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body.”
Judging by Your Body, Christina’s latest video, her new figure looks very attractive. Whatever is said, Aguilera can really afford looking the way she wants.
