As many as two prestigious awards (a 2005 Gold Design Award and a 2006 Red Dot Design Award) went to a perfect electric imitation of a common candle. The designer, Metaphys, went out of their way to make it as close to the real thing as possible!

You “ignite” it by scraping with a matchstick and it goes off when you blow on it. It is charmingly simple and gives a good simulation of a candle flame. Being 16 x 270 x 16 mm in size, it will look equally good on the wall and on a table.

The gadget is good for up to 8 hours’ light and costs $159.99.
