Everyone must have paid attention to a small patch of fabric that is attached to new clothes when we purchase them. It is sewn to the product or neatly packed in a small transparent plastic bag. Some believe that this piece of fabric is intended to mend the clothes if necessary. However, it performs a different function.
A new clothing item that you buy at the store often goes with a small fabric patch that a self-respecting manufacturer will always attach. Do not throw it away. This is a very valuable patch, which is able to save the dress, jacket, shirt or pants. Before the first washing, you may use it to check how the thing will behave when interacting with hot water and the detergent. In addition, it is recommended to use this patch to check how stain removers will influence the clothing. This will help you avoid spoiling your favorite clothes.
You can use the patch to know whether the fabric shrinks. It is necessary to keep the patch in warm water for about 30 minutes and then put it on the previously cut piece of cardboard the size of the patch. When the fabric gets dry, you will see whether it shrinks.
The patch is also used to check the quality of colored fabrics. This patch is placed in a strong soap solution for 10 minutes; then, the fabric is rubbed lightly, left in cold water for 20 minutes, and drained. If the water is not colored, and the color of fabric does not change after it gets dry, the product can be washed in warm water or in the washing machine, and you should not worry that the color will deteriorate.
