Meditation reduces the risk of heart attack, scientists of the Maharishi University in the US claim. Together with research team from the University of Wisconsin they completed nine year study on how meditation affects cardiovascular system, the biggest research ever in this field.
The study involved 200 patients diagnosed with coronary artery atherosclerosis. They were separated into two groups, one of which took meditation classes that lasted for 15 to 20 minutes. Meditation practitioners reduced the risk of heart attack, unstable angina and stroke by 47 percent. The scientists are yet uncertain as to why meditation is positive. A possible reason is relaxing effect of Eastern practices and blood pressure lowering.
