Swedish psychologists claim that household chores have a negative impact on our mental health, Health reports. The major victims are women who do most of the household chores.
Swedish scientists studied a family life of over 5,000 Swedes for four years and discovered that 40 percent of the difference in mental state of men and women stems from disproportional allocation of household duties. In particular, women do three times more household chores than men. In families where both spouses are working, women’s portion of household chores gets even bigger, exceeding that of men by four times.
The study authors suggest quite unusual advice. They think employers should give a child care leave to both parents simultaneously. In this case, the scientists believe, there is hope that household chores can be equally distributed between spouses.
