A new fact about the low-calorie cola and sweetened fruit juices has been revealed. Daily intake of these drinks leads to depression. The results of the research were published in New York Daily News.
According to the new study conducted by the National Institute of Health (USA), if you drink about 4 cups of soda a day, you face the risk of suffering from such diseases as depression.
The study involved 264,000 people aged 50 to 71 years. For a year, they had been given different drinks (cola, tea, juice, and coffee). Then, the subsequent changes in the body were observed over the next 10 years.
The conclusions were as follows: those who drank four cups or cans a day of any kind of soft drinks were 30% more prone to depression than others. Consumers of diet drinks were even less fortunate, their risk was 51% bigger.
Good news for coffee lovers: if you drink 4 cups of coffee a day, you are 10% less prone to depression than non-coffee drinkers.
The authors of the study recommend replacing sweetened drinks with unsweetened coffee, if you want to reduce the risk of depression.
For some reason, nothing is said about the tea. The study raised some criticism on the part of those who believed it was not soda that caused depression, but malnutrition in general because cola is usually consumed by the fans of junk food and fast food.
