Never has jewelry been more evocative, personal and reflective as in the collection by German jewel designer Denise Julia Reytan who creates luxurious pieces using plastic.
Reytan draws her inspiration from an assorted collection of things that attract her, many of which relate to her own life: cute childhood memorabilia, family jewelry, gems acquired in various parts of the world at different stages of her life. From these memory-laden items, stones, plastic and chains she assembles unimaginable combinations where colors, shapes and materials blend into a marvelous whole. It is known as material painting with silicone casting used to hold the parts together.
Reytan says of her Precious Plastics that she treats them like they were poems making the objects interplay like sentences and symbols and finally “merge with the wearer” as an example of supreme communication.
