Celebs Show Us How to Rock the Trends for 2012

With the international Fashion Week shows over, we’re already looking ahead to what dresses we’ll all be wearing next year. Some of our favourite fashion starlets are one step ahead of the curve when it comes to 2012 trends, so we’ve looked to the red carpet for inspiration. Here’s our pick of the major looks for 2012 dresses as worn by celebs that are almost as fashion-obsessed as we are! You can shop for on-trend dresses that cover all of these major trends at hot online fashion store Fashion Union too.

Red Dress

The Sheer Maxi

As worn by: Both Olsen twins, Courtney Love, Michelle Williams and every single off-duty model at NY and London Fashion Week. The sheer maxi was all over the international Fashion Week catwalks and the look was blacker then black, often teamed with contrasting opaques. The Olsens have been spotted in sheer black maxi skirts tying into their gothic Victoriana look, whereas Michelle Williams showed us how to make the trend more wearable with a built in underslip providing more coverage.

Pack a Polynesian Punch

As worn by: Tali Lennox, Pixie Geldof and Gossip Girl Blake Lively. Bold prints caused quite a stir in the fashion world this summer and they continue into 2012 with a Polynesian twist. DKNY and Diane von Furstenberg used Polynesian prints banana leaf and palm prints this year, as spotted on Tali Lennox, while Dior went for a subtler approach, using Polynesian prints in sweet muted shades of grey and pastel, as spotted on Blake.

21st Century Mod

As worn by: Sienna Miller, Hilary Duff, Paris Hilton and Hailee Steinfeld. The 60’s trend looks lset to give the 70’s trend a run for its money in 2012, and some of our favourite fashionistas have been rocking this look already. Channelling 60’s fashion icon Twiggy, Sienna, Hilary, Paris and Hailee have all attended red carpet do’s in straight-up-and-down mod cut dresses. Make a bolder statement with classic monochrome black and white a la Sienna, or seek inspiration from the Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2012 show and give it a modern edge with futuristic metallic fabrics.

Polka Dot-Dotty

As worn by: Victoria Beckham, Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway, Emma Roberts, Eva Mendes and Olivia Palermo. A fashion must-have for 2012, polka dots big and small have been embellishing some of our favourite celeb’s red carpet gowns this month. Starlets have been dying to get their hands on one of Marc Jacobs polka dot-emblazoned Spring/Summer 2012 creations, which premiered at NY Fashion Week this year, clashing polka dot patterns with wild abandon. Anne Hathaway was spotted in a signature Marc Jacobs polka dot tulip dress in classic navy at her latest red carpet event, so it’s time to clear out the Breton stripes and go dotty for next season.
