Sarah Michelle Gellar ought to be happy – she’s got a thriving career, a 9-year-long marriage to Freddie Prinze, Jr., and a 2-year-old daughter – but there is always something wrong… In her case it’s herself.
As she confessed to Health (for its October issue) she suffers from bouts of body dysmorphic disorder (a disorder when a person finds an imaginary flaw in his or her appearance and broods over it). She believes she shares this disease with most women.
How does Gellar fight it? “I just have to remember that I’m human, and I’m a mom,” the Ringer star spills admitting that the thought of her parenthood weakens her vain attitude.
Maybe for the same reason the 34-year-old actress never seeks inspiration in pictures of other actresses. It sets off a swarm of thoughts like airbrushing, workouts, food programs and unwelcome comparisons that get in the way of inspiration. So the best bargain for her is to find stimulation within.
Also, Gellar would hate to stick a picture of herself onto the fridge door – although if she were going to get a photo of herself where she would feel she looked fine, she’d be only too glad to put it up.
Expounding on her ideas on health and beauty Gellar refers to Duchess Catherine and Pippa Middleton.
Duchess Catherine, she told Health, would have been marveled at as the beauty ideal some 10 years ago – while nowadays people are inclined to believe she is “stressed.” As for her sister, the actress considers hers to be “a fabulously athletic body” which looks like the ultimate desire of all women who hanker after perfect shape and health.
