Giuliana Rancic has dramatically discovered that she has a cancer tumor in her breast, she spoke out bravely on Monday on NBC’s Today. The tumor was discovered via a mammogram as the TV host was undergoing her scheduled round of in-vitro fertilization (Rancic is doing her best to get pregnant).
The 37-year-old host meant not to have a mammogram until she turned 40, but her IVF doctor talked her round to it. As a result, the cancer has been diagnosed at an early stage and Rancic has a good treatment prognosis. She is due for a surgery later this week and afterwards will have radiation therapy for six weeks.
Although the news came as a shock, coming on top of her previous unfortunate IVF experiences (one attempt caused a miscarriage and another one just failed) the Style Network host intends to get on with pregnancy. She said she felt that the baby had been in time saving her life and coming early enough while she is not as sick as she can be expected to be in future. “I truly feel God was looking after me,” she concluded.
Another blessing in Rancic’s life is her husband Bill whom she calls “unbelievable” for his ability to recognize when she wants to cry and lets her have her moments of sadness.
As life would have it, Rancic was engaged in some work lately for the non-profit Bright Pink conducting on-the-street interviewing aimed at fighting breast-cancer myths. It was timed for the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the 25th one this year.
