Mendes, 37, finds her striving to maintain a shapely body as much strenuous as the next woman. She says she runs not less than four times a week, going in periodically for distance running, uphill running and track. “I feel it’s important to let women know that I have similar struggles,” she adds, recounting her food limitations. She quit eating red and white meat – and discovered that her skin has improved.
The body is what you keep working at, the actress urges, touching upon her healthy-body reputation in Hollywood. But – much may she speak of contributing “to a certain happy, healthy, empowered image” – there is more to her appearance than just the result of her workouts.
Speaking from her own experience, Mendes gives a message to girls: “What I tell girls is what they don’t like about themselves now, they will probably end up loving as an adult.” When in her early teens, Mendes confesses, she was worrying about flaws like her overbite and mole; now she collects compliments on what she used to regard as her imperfections!
Mendes’s current heartthrob is her so-star on the new flick The Place Beyond the Pines, 31-year-old Ryan Gosling. Not only the film is creatively inspirational, she opened up to Marie Claire, but her co-star is nothing less than a “dream”!
