American scientists have made another attempt to figure out why men live shorter lives than women. The PLOS One journal reports.
In an article on this topic, gerontologists argue that the cell of men’s bodies is initially not genetically programmed for long life. The experts called their theory “one-time set of cells”. Moreover, the scientists believe that the problem is not on specific defects in male genes but in their combination.
Combination of female genes typically is such that the tissue cells are more durable. However, the article authors point out that their theory is nothing more than another hypothesis in an attempt to explain the body aging process. The only scientifically proved finding so far is that the level of sex hormones influences the duration of life: testosterone in men and estrogen in women.
