Studies have shown that regular intake of vitamins supports the immune system and helps to prevent the flu. Taking vitamins during the disease can alleviate the symptoms and shorten the duration of your illness. Many of the useful minerals can be obtained from conventional foods, but it is necessary to include some of them in the diet in the form of dietary supplements. Here are the basic ones:

Pills and a glass of water

1. ECGC, or epigallocatechin gallate (catechin)

Catechin can be found in green tea. It is known for its antibacterial, antiviral and antitumor qualities.

2. Vitamin C

According to scientists, taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C every six hours gives effective relief of the flu and may even prevent it.

3. Zinc

The use of zinc tablets every two to three hours can shorten the duration of cold symptoms.

4. N-acetylcysteine

The substance helps to improve lung functioning, which makes it an important agent in the treatment of chronic asthma and acute respiratory infections.

5. Beta-carotene and vitamin A

Beta-carotene and vitamin A are used to build cell walls and mucous membranes of the lungs. They help to increase the number of infection-fighting cells and neutralize free radicals. Vitamin A strengthens the immune system, increasing the number of white blood cells that help fight diseases.
