By 2020, eight in ten men and seven in ten women will be obese, according to a forecast by researchers at the University of Oxford. The estimates were based on a study of current obesity trend among children and adults.
This is a ticking bomb because predominance of obesity in a society will lead to a surge in heart attacks, strokes and diabetes. It would hurt a lot of people, while tax payers would be burdened by rising health care costs.
You don’t necessarily have to back up the forecast. Instead of watching sports on the TV lying on your couch, just go outside and do some running. Replace big plates with smaller ones, white rice with brown one; eat more dietary fiber and vegetables. Don’t be desperate and start doing something.
