A recent study says women are happier than men. The quantitative indicator of women’s happiness, however, doesn’t greatly exceed that of men’s, by just 15 minutes per day.
Both men and women equally like watching TV and going about their hobbies, but men experience more negative emotions during the day, according to Dr Roger Patulny, from the University of New South Wales, Australia.
Compared to women, men get less pleasure out of life by 10 minutes a day. They also have 6 minutes more time when they experience negative emotions, the study says. Both men and women enjoy resting and playing with their children, but women seem to do things they like more often. Moreover, women get more pleasure out of what they do at their free time.
The most unenjoyable thing for women was household chores. Housework took 90 minutes every day. Men spent, on average, 50 minutes on unpleasant chores every day. Men also don’t have goods times at their job and communicating with other people.
“Women seem happier,” Patulny said. “They are happier if you ask them how satisfied they are with life but they also have more happy time.” The difference may be explained by the fact that men socialize less. They also spend less time with their family and friends and are more likely to consider themselves as lonely. Women spend a lot time hanging out with each other. Women can relive their stress by meeting their friends, as one participant of the poll suggested. Her husband thinks one of the most enjoyable things that make life happier is hanging out with friends and having sex.
