Heatwave is a song released on 6 September 2010 by Phil Collins as the lead single from his Motown covers album Going Back (released on September 13). It was his first single release in over 5 years. As with all the songs on the album, Collins strived to recreate the original version during the recording. As a result, 3 of the famous Funk Brothers, Bob Babbitt, Ray Monette, and Eddie Willis were part of the recording process. Phil said of having the Funk Brothers available to play on the album, “To be able to have three of the surviving Funk Brothers play on all the tracks was unbelievable”. There was one moment when they were tracking ‘Heat Wave’ that I experienced a wave of happiness and wonder that this was actually happening to me!”. Enjoy the video below. The Genesis star is playing the song with a large ensemble of musicians and vocalists backing him up. (Love Is Like a) Heatwave lyrics are displayed below.
Phil Collins – (Love Is Like a) Heatwave Song Words
Whenever I’m with him
Something inside
Starts to burnin’
And I’m filled with desire
Could it be the devil in me
Or is this the way love’s supposed to be
Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can’t keep from cryin’
It’s tearing me apart
Whenever he calls my name
So slow, sweet and plain
I feel, yeah, yeah, well I feel that burning flame
Has my blood pressure got a hold on me
Or is this the way love’s supposed to be
Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can’t keep from cryin’
It’s tearing me apart
Sometimes I stare in space
Tears all over my face
I can’t explain it, don’t understand it
I ‘ain’t never felt like this before

But that doesn’t mean it has me amazed
I don’t know what to do, my head’s in a haze
Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can’t keep from cryin’
It’s tearing me apart
Don’t pass up this chance
This time it’s a true romance
