E-Pill for Weight Loss

Israeli engineers have come up with a unique electronic pill, which is able to fool the human brain. It makes the brain think our stomach is filled, which suppresses appetite and, consequently, results in the loss of extra weight.

At first glance, this revolutionary device for weight loss looks like a regular pill, but inside it is full of the latest technologies. Experimental diet pill works the same way as gastric pacemakers, effectively suppressing the appetite. Pacemaker is an implant, which is installed in the stomach surgically and is connected to the vagus nerve.

This nerve sends signals from the stomach to the hypothalamus – a brain region responsible for regulating appetite. The pacemaker has a sensor that detects when food enters the stomach. After that, it emits low-level electrical impulses to the vagus nerve, making the brain feel saturation of the stomach.

The cost of such a pacemaker is greater than 10,000 pounds, and it is usually used for the patients who do not respond to dieting or cannot undergo a more radical gastric shunting. Diet pills, invented by Israeli company MelCap Systems, do not imply any surgical procedures because they are simply swallowed with water. Although their price has not been announced yet, it is already clear that it will be significantly cheaper than the pacemaker.

In the stomach, this pill may be subjected to external control via a special application for mobile phones. A few minutes after getting to the place, the pill begins to produce a thin mesh. It would not let the device leave the stomach and enter the intestine. A powerful magnetic patch is then applied to the skin on the outside of the abdomen, and it acts on the pill so that it gets placed in the upper part of the stomach where the vagus nerve is located.

When the pill feels the contraction of the muscles, it recognizes the arrival of food in the stomach and then begins transmitting nerve signals about saturation. In fact, this is already the imitation of the action of gastric pacemakers.
