The Dancing with the Stars cohost Brooke Burke-Charvet has coped with a major health threat!
The 41-year-old TV star had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and, having had it confirmed in November, proceeded to undergo a thyroidectomy. The operation, scheduled on Thursday, was a success, and Burke-Charvet has already shared her experience on the net.
Before she went in for surgery, the famous host, bracing herself for the knife, posted in her WhoSay picture album a photo of herself clad in hospital clothes as a last reminder of what her neck looked like. Brave and composed in pre-surgery days, Burke-Charvet says the operation left her spent both physically and emotionally – as if she “got hit by a car.”
Apart from this, her Tweeter messages are on the upbeat note as she thanks her followers “for all your prayers and light” and informs that she is able to talk now, after having been plagued by the fear to lose her voice under the knife.
Her most explicit story of her fight with cancer is told in her blog on Modern Mum, where she revealed that she had kept her family in the dark about her condition as long as possible. “I decided not to tell my children about my diagnosis … because I didn’t want them to worry,” she wrote on Wednesday. Mother of four children (with husband David Charvet, a Baywatch alum) understood that the younger children couldn’t take it in properly and would only become worried and pelt her with questions.
Still, she had to tell them some time, her daughters Sierra and Neriah being the first to know. It was her son Shaya who reacted to the news strongly saying he didn’t want his mother to die and scared Burke by his passionate plea.
The TV host said she had been ready for the procedure and concentrated on a quick recovery. She is no longer afraid and believes her intense wish would carry her through the healing process with as little pain and worry for her family as possible. “My only need is being OK for my husband and my children,” Burke stated, adding that she means to get over it as fast as she can.
