Has the Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong set off on a typical rock star’s journey of a string of onstage outrages leading him gradually to substance-induced blackouts? According to what Us Weekly has unearthed, his latest rude outburst at the iHeart Radio festival in Las Vegas could be a red signal of the beginning of such a journey.
As the group’s performance at the Clear Channel-hosted festival on Saturday was coming to an end, the producers flashed a “one minute sign” reminding the boys to start to wind down. Armstrong bristled at it immediately.
The singer flew off the handle and cursed into the microphone profusely, screeching that, having been around since 1988, he wasn’t going to take to time limitations gladly. “I’m not f***ing Justin Bieber,” shouted he and added that he would show what could be done in one minute.
It turned out that what he meant was the old rock trick of destroying his guitar, after which he thrust his middle finger at the audience and was off.
But this outburst had repercussions, as an inside source told Us. Armstrong wasn’t happy about how he had behaved; “he reacted badly,” was “pissed,” the source shared, and took it as an indication that he should face some of his issues.
The punk rock band’s rep confirmed on Sunday that the frontman has made up his mind to try and control his substance abuse. He also issued official statement that the Green Day’s set hadn’t been interrupted by Clear Channel and rendered an apology to anyone who had taken offense at Armstrong’s outburst during the iHeart Radio festival show.
Five months ago Green Day were planning to release an album trilogy Uno, Dos and Tre in the period between September and the next January. Now it appears as if the development will seriously interfere with “some of their upcoming promotional appearances” for the project. Armstrong’s case is an example of what amount of damage your emotional outburst can cause and it is the right time one should take some Outpatient drug rehab programs which help you overcome this issue.
