In a recent edition of Science, the journal tells about an interesting study by American psychologists in which they concluded that romantic love is capable of reducing physical pain.
The scientists came to such a conclusion in the course of the experiment that involved several hundred volunteers who agreed to undergo painful impact. The participants’ hands were slowly heated to very high temperatures with rods and at the same showing them a photograph of their loved one on a computer screen. It was found that when the volunteers looked at the picture of their loved partner, they absolutely did not feel that the rod is heated more and more.
The researchers claim that love is like an analgesic, reducing sensitivity to pain. Romantic feelings activate the brain areas responsible for the decrease in pain, as well as activate the dopamine hormone, which is responsible for pleasure and good mood.
