The survey showed that 57.7% of women use expired makeup products, and they are in no hurry to get rid of them as they feel sorry for the money spent. However, women are not even aware that they can harm their health getting eye infections and skin rashes.

Lisa Brett, a Debenhams employee, says it is sad to realize that so many women risk their health using expired cosmetics. They are encouraged to check the expiration date on the package and not to be tempted by big discounts. Expired products will not give the expected result, but, on the contrary, will cause a number of health problems.

According to the study, 73% of women are not even aware that their cosmetics bag contains products that need to be thrown away. One third of the respondents used the eyeliner that had expired a year before. And that, according to the doctors, could lead to a serious eye infection. 22% of women applied cream foundation for over a year. This would cause skin problems and infectious diseases. 7% of women admitted that they used eye shadow, which had to be thrown away six years ago (the official expiration date is one year).

L.Brett said that if makeup products have long expired, it’s a great mistake not to buy a new one to save money or to wait until the old one is used. Expired makeup products apply worse, shadows roll up, lipstick has an unpleasant odor and a bitter taste.
