Scientists from the Laboratory of visual ergonomics in the U.S., established that Verdana is the safest for human eyes font among all other computer fonts.
Prolonged computer use can lead to development of the so-called “computer vision syndrome”. The symptoms include temporary myopia, eye muscle dysfunction, reduced sensitivity of vision, and burning eyes.
Yet, there are some factors that reduce the adverse effects of computer usage on eyes. Choice of font is one of them.
Scientist have concluded that eyes experience the least tension when reading text in the Verdana font. This is mainly because the letters are not serif font and are enlarged by line spacing.
In addition, the scientists have announced that the optimum for eyes font size is 10-12 points.
