Cherry juice can improve your sleep. A study has showed volunteers who drank a glass of pure (sugar-free) cherry juice in the morning and in the evening slept better compared to when they drank the same amount of other juices. On average, sleep duration after drinking cherry juice increased by 17 minutes.
The cherry juice effect can be due to a high content of melatonin, the hormone that regulates our sleep-wake cycle, according to Wilfred Pigeon, a psychiatrist at the University of Rochester in New York.
Given the adverse effects of some sleeping pills, it is great that we now have a natural and safe alternative.
