Tone up with Gala

Gala Bingo understands that finding the time to exercise is particularly difficult for busy parents and office workers.

To help combat the areas that suffer the most when you spend long amounts of time sitting at a desk – either working, playing games or just passing the time – Gala Bingo have put together a graphic showing some of the best exercises you can do at your desk, so that you can keep your bingo wings at bay!

Like any exercise routine, it’s vital to warm-up first with something like The Seated Leg Raiser. Whilst seated, you have to straighten one or both legs out and hold the position for five seconds. You then lower your legs again- but without letting them touch the floor- and repeat 15 times.

Once you’ve warmed up, there are more challenging exercises you can do, like The Fist Pump. This exercise tones the arms as you fist punch (punch your arms out above your head) for 60 seconds.

Another vigorous exercise shown in the graphic is The “Crunch Time” Crunch, which will help you get strong, defined abs. Place your elbows on your thighs and curl your chest towards your legs- you should feel some resistance in the arms to know it’s really working. Hold the position for ten seconds before releasing and repeating ten times. It could be an easy one to get away with in the office if you pretend you’re looking for a pen each time you curl in towards your legs…

When exercising at your desk, don’t forget to do a wind down, otherwise you’ll feel it the next day! The Silent Seat Squeeze is a good wind down exercise and you can do it without anyone noticing. Just squeeze your buttocks and keep them clenched for five to ten seconds before releasing. Repeat as many times as possible.

Take inspiration from the graphic and make sure you do a little exercise every day – not only will it help maintain a healthy body but regular exercise gives us a healthy mind too, as it reduces stress and helps us unwind. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself, whether that’s a Zumba class or a walk round the park.
