After studying <strong>sleep duration</strong> among middle-aged men and women, epidemiologist Diane Lauderdale and her colleagues from the University of Chicago reported that  we sleep less than we should, and even… less than we think.</p>

<p>Spending on average 7.5 hours in bed, the subjects slept 6.1 hours, and it took them about 22 minutes to fall asleep. Dr Lauderdale feels sorry to say that we now <strong>sleep less</strong> than our ancestors, although we have learnt more about the meaning of sleep for our health and work capacity. The doctor encourages us not to suppress the desire to sleep with working, learning or having fun at night.</p>
