The St Ives beauty brand carried out a survey among 1,000 women and 550 men to reveal that 10% of women use makeup only to impress men. However, almost two-thirds of the respondents go too far in this matter, believing that heavy make-up is what attracts the opposite sex.

80% of men said they preferred “natural beauty”. In fact, it does not mean that men do not like it when a woman uses makeup. However, make-up on a woman’s face should not be evident or stand out too much. 40% of men think that women wear too much makeup.

Half of the women surveyed apply makeup 1500 times a year, and two-thirds spend three and a half weeks a year on makeup. Excessive makeup is a major repelling factor for men (45%), followed by fake tan (disliked by 33% of men), very bright lipstick (5%), false eyelashes and thick eyebrows (4%).

However, more than 50% of women still feel more attractive with makeup on their face, and 28% feel lack of confidence without it. 17% will cancel a date, if they cannot use their makeup bag to get ready for it.
