The divorce won’t mean that he and Kate will drift apart – on the contrary, Jon Gosselin hopes to maintain friendly footing with his ex-wife and mother of their eight children. This is the information imparted to People by his pal Michael Lohan, Lindsey Lohan’s estranged father. “He would love to be friends with her,” Lohan explains. “They had eight kids and he would like to work things out the right way and just be friends.”

It was Lohan who showed Jon Gosselin around the Hamptons, and the chaps have been keeping together since, spending last Saturday in Southampton. They had a business meeting to attend. After that a paparazzi spotted them strolling along the beach. Intending to proceed to a polo match at Bridgehampton later they stopped by a J. Crew store to look for suitable clothes.

“He’s fantastic and upbeat,” Lohan comments, adding that Jon intends to steer his life forward without forgetting about his kids. “”A lot of opportunities are opening up for him… It’s overwhelming for him but he’s handling it.”

Gosselin has been seen to spend his time with Hailey Glassman, who was expected to become his special friend, and Kate Major who once was with the Star magazine team. Yet Lohan shrugs it all off.

“He’s not with either one right now. He’s not concentrating on a relationship with any woman,” is Lohan’s opinion. “He just wants to take a step back and deal with his family and his kids.”

Kate Gosselin, on the other hand, spent Saturday at Wernersville, Pa., home sharing Play-Doh food with the eight Gosselin children, who were happy to play in the front yard.

Nothing seemed to be clouding Kate’s enjoyment of life – she was in a buoyant mood, always kissing her kids and never forgetting to give some time to the sextuplets. Her wedding ring was back on her finger.
